I mean yeah you know I agree with you on those points lol. But I also think Angelus tells people hard truths about THEMSELVES — I don’t think he necessarily tells the truth all the time. Other characters put that on him.
Maybe that comment is more about Wes realizing that he has a thing for Angel and making him uncomfortable about it than anything else? (Which, um, okay. Score another one for Joss being a jerk. Let’s make someone feel uncomfortable about a sexual attraction! YAY. Ugh, this man, the worst.)
I know how you feel about slash fandom in general but as a gay man, do you think Angel/Angelus could be claimed as a queer character based on “just one time” and not having an aversion to spanking men in canon (again, in thinking about your crumbs discussion)? And I guess the larger question is, is claiming him as a canonically queer character, given Joss’ attitude towards gay males, a good thing?

Yes I claim Angel/Angelus as a queer character. I think claiming a vampire as a queer character is always complicated, and you know how I feel about Joss, but I claim Angel and Spike as canonical bisexuals. Darla and Dru meanwhile are only implied.
