It’s gotten to the point that whenever I see the term “strong female character” my skin crawls.

holybat:

I hate this term.

People try to put it out as a “positive” and pro-feminism ting, but it’s pure BULLSHIT.

Male characters come in all kinds of personality, and they all have about the same chances of being loved by the audience; the strong, the weak, the non brilliant, the geniuses, the popular, the unpopular, the heroes, the sidekicks and the villains.

But the female characters suddenly have to be “strong” to be validated and a good representative of women everywhere?

And note, I say “strong” instead of strong, because many times these “strong female characters” are female characters with traits associated to masculinity, which takes us back to “women have to be more of a man to be acceptable and positive role models”.

And that’s just a full load of bullshit. Sure, it’s helped the women who are more tomboyish or who have no particular interest in feminine things, but what about those who are feminine? What about the ones who are shy? The ones who don’t like sports or are into romantic comedy movies instead of reading a lot of serious and non fictional books? What has that done to them?

Here’s what that’s done to them; it’s given yet another excuse for fauxminists and blatant sexists to mock femininity, to mock those who are feminine and to make them into a joke. Into “bad characterization”.

News: Not all women are “strong”, nor strong. Not all women are brilliant. Not all women are independent. Not all women want to conquer the world with their intelligence or their other abilities. But ALL WOMEN ARE WORTHY OF RESPECT AND VALIDATION NO MATTER HOW THEY ARE.

lol it’s hilarious because seasons 4 & 5 are amazing?? season 4 has this one particular arc with one of the girls that is amazing.

June, this screws up my whole theory. Months and months of work listing shows that had awesome season twos and horrible season fours. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO ME?!

I will not ruin the Buddy storyline for you. But I will say that this show breaks the rule because S2 was the year of the Writers’ Strike and that can fuck up anything.

I think that during the Writers’ Strike, they should have just called it all a wash. Nothing good seemed to come out of that in terms of tv writing.

That’s it! I’m jumping on the mom and daughter FNL bandwagon! :D

DO IT! DOOOOO IT! It’s on Netflix. :)

just lol season 2 and that is all i’ll say

thewaxlion replied to your postSaturday FNL thoughts (finished to S2:E2)

season 2 is just a hot fucking mess

Um, June, the rule is that s4 sucks and S2 is usually awesome. WHY ARE THEY MESSING WITH THE FORMULA?!

My Mom and I are thinking about starting FNL! Are you enjoying it? :)

No lie, the whole reason I started was because Nicole was watching it with her mom. I think it needs to become a “thing”

Oh Buddy…I’ll leave you to those thoughts for now.

Ooooh, please tell me that he has a heart attack. I cannot watch this dude anymore.

julie taylor is a teenage girl. it’s like dawn summers all over again, tbh. but worse because they’re like ugh she doesn’t deserve matt.

itsa-wonder replied to your postthewaxlion replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

it’s not too bad for the most part but that’s mainly because it’s really small. they seem to love tami taylor tho, so a+ on that one. but we’ll have to see how you feel in season three. i don’t like tim himself, i just like how he is with lyla.

itsa-wonder replied to your postthewaxlion replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

but i actually loved the finale! except for what happens with tim lmao.

itsa-wonder replied to your postthewaxlion replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

oh and julie is a whiny teenager and lyla is a slut who tries to ~change~ tim

I haven’t had participating in the fandom feels as of yet but yeah, the hate on for the ladies, I don’t do that. I will just stay in my little corner.

And again, things might change. I haven’t even finished S1.

matt is one of the fandom’s top favorites! i love him, i just love others more? but matt and his narrative is great and largely due to zach gilford because his face and all of his choices. but fandom just prioritizes tim’s feelings??

itsa-wonder replied to your postitsa-wonder replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

completely agreed. but as far as tim/lyla goes, they always gave me feelings. because her fling with tim (however fucked up it was) was something she did for herself. it was all about lyla for the first time.

itsa-wonder replied to your postitsa-wonder replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

and then season three just kills me and i actually like tim at times in that season because of lyla feelings.

itsa-wonder replied to your postitsa-wonder replied to your post: itsa-wonder…

pretty much. fandom loves tim (and all the white dudes really) and they forget smash exists and they hate lyla and julie.

FNL fandom is definitely one I will not be participating in. (Then again, I might get to S3 and change my mind about Riggins. Who knows. Stranger things have happened) But how can ANYONE hate Lyla and Julie? IDGI. Does Julie like stab Coach Taylor or something?

And I totally understood Lyla’s fling with Riggins. That felt really real and raw to me. I just have this feeling Riggins won’t change and he is going to turn into his father. I just have this feeling that is where his narrative is going but I might be wrong. these are guesses. I have been pretty spoiler-free for this show (except that everyone hated the finale) I don’t want to wish that on Lyla as endgame.

“You girls (and guys!) keep me young, ugh, I love you so much” -Mrs. George in Mean Girls
This is how you all make me feel, in a really good way. I can’t sum up my feelings better than this.
